TAX for things coming from America

Hi ladies

Does anyone know what the import tax is on things arriving from the USA?

Basically, i am probably going to end up getting my wedding ring from there as i received my price today from a jewellers in Hatton Gardens. I'm still getting over the shock!!!! They want £1,150 for just my ring!!!!!!!!

Its £615 from USA, plus any tax i would have to pay, so trying to work out if it will be any cheaper. H2B says just pay it......he would never cut it in my job!

Just had a quick google for answers, the general answer is that it could be up to 30% of the value for taxes and import charges etc.

Ive not bought anything though, so dont really know for definate. There seems to be a lot of different answers though, I think customs just charge what they like to be honest and most people just pay it. It seems too difficult, drawn out and expensive to argue with them!
