Woohoo! Venue agreed to a tasting!
I emailed our venue a few days ago asking if we could have a small tasting session before we decide on our menu, because it was never mentioned and said nothing about it in the contract or on their website. Well, I have just received a reply from the manager saying to let them know when we are coming in, and what dishes we would like to try! Yayyyy! x

Re: Woohoo! Venue agreed to a tasting!
The Hotel is owned and run by an Italian family, so most of their food is Italian based, but they do some Traditional English food also. I think we have decided on parma ham and melon for starters, as I know it's boring and over-done at Weddings, but most people will like either the melon or the ham, or hopefully both! Kids would probably eat it too, as we've decided to give the kids the same as adults just smaller portions. The ones we really want to try are:
Pollo Alla Valdostana - Butterfly breast of Chicken baked with ham, mozzerella cheese in a white wine sauce with herbs, served with seasonal vegetables and sautee/dauphinoise potatoes
Arrosto di Anatra - Fantailed breast of duck with honey sauce served with seasonal vegetable and sautee/dauphinoise potatoes
Vanilla baked cheesecake drizzled with white and milk belgian chocolate sauce.
Do you think it would be cheeky of me to ask to try their traditional roast beef with all the trimmings too?!

Loved our taste session! We took my parents and Steves mum.
We tried 2 different starters (3 of us had soup and 2 had pate), then we all had the main (roast chicken as we KNEW we wanted this), and then we knew wanted cheesecake but didnt know what one so had 5 DIFFERENT cheesecakes!! Woooh, lol.

Do you think it would be cheeky of me to ask if we can try 7 different dishes: 2 starters, 3 mains and 2 desserts? It will only be me and h2b there, so I don't want full meals, just little samples!

Of course its not cheeky! I think you should be allowed to try any and all of the dishes on the menu at a tasting. Its not like they need to cook full portions, just a few mouthfulls per person is enough!
You should ask to taste the wine list too!

Ahhhh well you see, I am not a wine person, neither is h2b. Give me as much champagne as you like and I'll drink it happily, but I'm really not keen on wine! I am more of a lager girl! Part of our package is unlimited house red and white wine during the meal. I think I am going to ask if h2b and I can have unlimited lager instead!
The manager is lovely, he always gives us a drink or 2 on the house when we go up there anyway. I love our venue and the people who own it!

They might be flexible with this! Ours included 2 glasses of wine per person on the tables. We dont do wine (well I do but none of our friends do) so we're paying the same and instead having £250 behind the bar for welcome drinks (of their choice) and unlimited fruit juice during the meal.
We found with ours that aslong as we give them the same money they are happy to change things around

Woo woo! The manager emailed back saying that he will arrange for us to try the 7 dishes we want on Monday evening at 8pm. He also said "come hungry". Well, there goes my diet on Monday!
