No sex before marriage back then? Don't you believe it! You just had to get married instead, or shipped off out of sight for six months because you were "ill" and needed "better air" to aid your convalscence (usually resulted in the baby being adopted).

I've researched my family tree and there are a number of suspiciously short pregnancies amongst my lot - including my grandmother, to my mother's horror. I found her wedding certificate and it turns out the was three months gone with my aunt when she got married, but my mother was always under the impression they married in April 1938 but it was actually 1939. Mum was shocked because her mother was a real prudish no sex before marriage type...!
